To ensure high quality and fast delivery, we always follow the steps of rapid PCB assembly, from DFM to prototype design, pre production, full-scale production, testing, and inspection. Please refer to the following detailed steps.
The PCB design must first be submitted to the rapid production PCB assembly manufacturer and undergo a Design for Manufacturability (DFM) check. The design adopts Gerber file format, which is a recognized manufacturing standard in the industry. Gerber files are often one of the main references for pricing PCB suppliers in rapid production.
DFM review is a technical validation process used to determine whether materials and designs comply with IPC standards and the capabilities of manufacturing or assembly lines. In DFM, the design and assembly teams brainstorm to assess risks and ensure that the requirements for rapid turnover are met by eliminating potential errors.
Firstly, prototype design is carried out to obtain some initial builds to evaluate the functionality of the printed circuit board. Manufacturers and project leaders are engaged in a series of collaborative discussions to identify gaps and potential improvements in the design. For large-scale rapid turnover PCB assembly services, this usually occurs in a very short period of time. Prototype design is an important stage where corrections and revisions can be made to achieve powerful and rapid turnaround production.
The next stage is pre production, where a small amount of products are produced again for testing and checking the readiness of the manufacturing and assembly lines in relatively large batches.
The next stage is the comprehensive production of PCBs, where the design and assembly techniques have been determined and meet the requirements for large-scale production.
Finally, inspection and testing should be conducted as part of the product quality inspection. Even for fast PCB assembly, these quality checks are important as they can screen out qualified products and then send them to customers. The inspection includes a rapid automatic optical inspection (AOI) machine used to check the integrity of solder joints and components on printed circuit boards. The testing is also conducted through online testing or flying probe testing, both of which are used to check electrical connection issues. The main difference is that online testing uses fixtures, while flying needle testing has movable probes that can access test pads.
